Winter Solstice
The power of light and darkness
Winter Solstice is a deeply spiritual and inspiring time of year, a time when nature offers us the gorgeous dance of light and dark. And so, I’m devoting this issue of Poet in Spirit to the Winter Solstice on December 21. A few years ago, I was inspired to write a solstice poem, and it’s featured this month in a Poetry Moment on WPSU (Public Media for Central Pennsylvania). You can check it out here, where host and poet Marjorie Maddox reflects on the Winter Solstice and reads my poem “Wonderwork” from my poetry collection Wonderwork.
I hope you enjoy Marjorie Maddox’s reflection and my poem. I also hope you’ll be inspired to pause and note whether, like me, you have ever been stopped in your tracks and made to wonder what else you might have been.
Yours in spirit,
Sandra
This is the solstice, the still point of the sun, its cusp and midnight, the year’s threshold and unlocking, where the past lets go of and becomes the future; the place of caught breath, the door of a vanished house left ajar.
